Hi, Vicki, I’m thrilled to have you visiting today. I want to jump right in to the interview.
What is your typical day like? Most days, I’m up by 6 and out of the house for a workout at 7. Home by 815 and shower. Eat and get to writing work. I usually take off from writing on Saturday and Sunday to hang with Handsome.
Where do you get the ideas for your stories? People say awesome things, like #2Son who once said, “I have a theory about love.” My head went boing!!!
What is your favorite dessert/food? I’m really partial to cake. Sigh. I love hamburgers.
Was your road to publication fraught with peril or a walk in the park? My road has been different. I’ve signed with small publishers, sold to magazines, and a good e-publisher for my mysteries. I’ve been involved in four anthologies. I’ve self-pubbed three funny short story collections.
Do you have a view in your writing space? What does your space look like? This is so funny. I used to be wed to my desk with a great front yard view until I bought a laptop, and now, I type anywhere. My office has a desk with book cases behind it loaded with my favorite books. A brown leather loveseat sits across from my desk, decorated with pillows I’ve stitched and some from friends. Above the sofa are my book covers. To the left of my desk is a rolling red tool box which once belonged to my dad.
Tell us about your hero. Give us one of his strengths and one of his weaknesses. Hero Daniel Ackerman is crazy about Kelly Stinson, his twin sister’s best friend, who has torn the ligaments in her ankle. He steps in to care for her. However, he never comes out and says how much he cares for her, even when the orthopedic surgeon—and his best friend-begins making passes at Kelly.
Tell us about your heroine. Give us one of her strengths and one of her weaknesses. Kelly Stinson does a huge favor for her best friend’s brother by participating in a beauty pageant. Only she trips and falls offstage. Daniel has tormented her all her life; so when it comes to finding true love, he’s overlooked.
What genres are you drawn to as a reader? I read a lot of mysteries, contemporary and historical romance, romantic comedy.
Do you have any words of inspiration for aspiring authors? Persevere. Long ago, I entered a book in a contest and received back this judge’s comment, “Why are you writing?” Needless to say, this was incredibly upsetting for two days. Then I squared my shoulders and determined no one is going to chart my destiny except for me.
What did you want to be when you were a child? Did you always know you wanted to be a writer? As a child, I just wanted to read and always have been a huge reader. But it was Dick Francis’ mysteries that caused an urge to write grow in me. It took a long time before I tried.
Please tell my readers a little bit about your book. Gladly! What if the love of your life was in front of you all along? It began innocently with a few margaritas… Kelly Stinson is persuaded to represent Yahoo! Ranch Steakhouse in the Chamber of Commerce’s beauty contest. After an unexpected swan dive off stage, her heart goes pitter patter over the orthopedic surgeon who repaired her ripped up ankle.
Daniel Ackerman has always had the hots for his twin sister’s best friend. Much to his dismay, her doctor has taken notice of the dark-haired beauty and invaded his territory. That’s about to change when he moves in to help Kelly recover physically and open her eyes to what’s been in front of her all along.
I love this excerpt: “Hey,” Daniel said. Crud. / “Are you drowning in there?” “No.” “Want your back scrubbed?” “Are you a famous, buffed-up action hero?” “No.” “Then, eat poo and die.” “I was thinking-” Amazing. “-I’m going to pick up some burgers.” My stomach growled. “I won’t be long. Be out soon, or I’m coming in.” “Ha. We both know you want to see me naked.” “Been there, done that already today. And by the way-”
“What now?” I heard him move closer to the door, and then he softly said, “The mole on your left hip is worth exploring…with my tongue.” I screamed.
